convert numeric to string w leading zeros

coxspss
Being working on this for awhile with no luck, I need to convert a series of numbers to strings removing the decimal & keeping the leading zeros--


004.78 numeric

needs to be

00478 string

Computing average variance extracted in SPSS

I would appreciate a tip on where in SPSS to compute average variance
extracted as per Fornell and Larcker, 1981, for purposes of
discriminant validity analysis. This is easy in PLS, I know, but am
looking for the SPSS equivalent tables or approximation thereto.
